----- OUR OFFERS ---------------------------
Carso stretches over the beautiful hilly landscape around Trieste. With its bare vegetation, it is nonetheless a charming area, thanks to its wide variety of landscapes and bright colour palette. Its underground world is equally interesting, made up as it is of fascinating natural caves and trenches dug during the various wars that raged over the area. These can be discovered by following the paths that run over the hills. In this apparently wild area, there lies hidden a host of typical hamlets which have cherished their time-honoured traditions. There you will be able to savour a perfect blend of flavours drawing on the Italian, Slovenian, Austrian and Hungarian traditional cuisines, which contributed to weaving the intricate historical fabric of these places. The Carso is the cradle of a full-fledged culture of wines and gastronomy, deeply rooted in the local people, who love eating the genuine produce of their land, washed down with a glass of good local wine.
A unique feature of the Carso is represented by the so-called 'osmize'. These are a legacy of Empress Maria Theresa, who issued an edict in the XVIIIth Century to allow farmers to sell the wine and food they produced at home by simply giving the public free access to their homes. The term 'osmiza' comes from the Slovenian word 'osem', meaning 'eight', because permission to sell one's produce was granted for eight days.
Trieste - a city on the sea in the very heart of Europe - is a real mosaic of interesting things for the visitor to do and see.
In this region at the crossroads between the Latin, the Slav and the German worlds, one can find many a trace left by the peoples who lived here. Trieste - a symbol of a cosmopolitan communion - was able to draw on the richness of this meeting between peoples with different languages and origins, and became notable for being unlike any other city in Italy. As evidence of this heterogeneous background, one can find buildings erected in the most diverse architectural styles from different historical periods, hosting valuable works of art, as well as churches devoted to different religions. Trieste's cuisine is also extremely interesting, stemming as it does from a blend between the German, the Slav, the Hungarian and the Italian traditions, with specialties best washed down with a glass of a good local wine. This blend of varied flavours creates a fascinating world to be discovered by following the taste itineraries through the streets of the city centre.
Trieste is not only an art city offering major opportunities for cultural enrichment. It is also a city of entertainment, with golf, horse riding, an evocative excursion on a sailing boat - and those who love danger will choose the Casino in near-by Slovenia.
This guided tour will help you relive Trieste at different moments in its historical development throughout the centuries, from its Roman origins to present times, with visits to religious institutions of the Catholic, Evangelical, Waldensian, Hebrew, Greek and Serbian-Orthodox religions. You will be able to savour the varied flavours of the local cuisine and admire the wide range of architectural styles and charming works of art. During your stay in the city you will be able to relax in the wellness centre at your luxury hotel.
