Synagogue of Trieste
The visit lasts 45 minutes
The SYNAGOGUE (Via S. Francesco, 19) is one of the symbols of the multicultural Trieste. The monumental Synagogue has been projected by the architects Ruggero and Arduino Berlam, and it was inaugurated in 1912. It is the symbol of the importance achieved by the Jewish Community both in the cultural and economical life of the city during the 19th Century.
The Temple, one of the biggest in Europe, has oriental marks that can be seen in its bifora, in the columns and in the peculiar rose windows, which delineate the Star of David.
The building in Via San Francesco hosts an oratory, which is used in weekdays, and during the fast days or the half-festivities and shabbat, and the big Synagogue which is used for the main festivities.
The original structure realised with the fusion of different architectural styles, has bright and elegant interiors, and four mighty marble pillars which sustain the large central dome.
Visits to the Synagogue of Trieste are held:
on Sunday, at 10.00am, 11.00am and 12.00am
The visit is held by a specialized guide and it lasts about 45 minutes.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10.00 to 11.00 the new audio-guides in English, Deutsch and Italian are available for individual visits
Entrance fee per person:
3,50€ for individuals;
2,80€ for over 65 and disabled;
2,50€ for groups (minimun 20 people);
2€ for students (minimum 20 people).
Reservation is requested only for groups.
The cumulative ticket for Synagogue and Jewish Museum CARLO E VERA WAGNER MUSEUM costs 7,50€ for individuals and 5€ per person for groups (minimum 20 people.
The Jewish Museum "Carlo e Vera Wagner" is open on Tuesday 4.00-7.00pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday 10.00am-1.00pm
